These are other little tricks which can be used in a chat room.

~~~><>~~~ - A Fish,
\~/ - Glass of Water,
@_v - A Snail,
Some people may use various shorthand styles too. These can include U (you), Y (why?), b4 (before), c (see), and so on... Also, abbreviations of states or countries can confuse people. The place Georgia is also annoying, so mention if it is the state or the country. You should also consider that other people may be from other areas of the world, so consider the type of grammar used, and try and avoid uncommon slang words.
A Few Phrases which I commonly used.
Mentioning your website address can encourage a few people to have a look at your site. They might like it and you might get some fans. Although typing in your website address every 5 seconds is not recommended. Every 10 minutes or so would seem ideal.
Avoid using CAPITAL LETTERS when possible, as that indicates shouting, and is not allowed in some chat rooms.
Before you go, that's the best time to say a really catchy sentence. Here are a few which I used often.
And I Ran, I Ran So Far Away...
blblblblblblblblblblb....... >GONE<
(Supposed to be a Star Trek style teleport)
I Shall Return, But Firstly I Must Leave!
